Life Instyle sat down with Kathy, the founder of Watertiger, to discuss what inspires her to import a collection of antique furniture from China.

Can you provide an overview of your retail brand, its history, and the journey that led to its creation?

After living and working in Asia for 15 years, I started Watertiger just over 22 years ago. We started importing a small collection of antique furniture from China. It sold in 2 weeks, and we felt we were onto something.

What path led you to Life Instyle, and what about the show makes it a great fit for you?

I have exhibited at trade fairs for over 15 years. The visitors to LIS are my type of clients.

What was the initial spark that inspired you to start this retail brand, and how does it align with your brand's mission?

History and beauty in pieces, repurposed and sustainable.

 

 

Could you share your personal favorite product from your brand's collection and explain why it holds a special place for you?

Too hard, like asking which child you like best.

Are there any other brands within your industry or related industries that you particularly admire or have been inspired by?

There is an amazing business in France that has always been inspirational: Atmosphère d’Ailleurs. Also, a retail store in the USA called Obsolete Inc.

In a competitive retail market, what unique qualities or values do you believe set your brand apart from others?

We are one of the few companies selling authentic, one-off pieces of furniture and handcrafted homewares.

 What inspired these new additions to your collection? Latest offering is direct sourcing to increase people's margin.

How do you approach the development and design of new products to ensure they align with your brand's identity and resonate with your target audience?

Watching and listening, what does the market need, what is missing.
