We sat down with Suzette Cassie, owner of Zag Bijoux Australia, a collection of timeless and stylish French jewellery.

Tell us a bit about the story behind Zag Bijoux Australia. What was your inspiration and your brand mission?

I discovered the French brand,  Zag Bijoux, on a trip to France 2 years ago and fell in love instantly.  I knew that it was something completely different to anything I had seen before.  The creator, Michelle, is Parisian and the range definitely has a French style and elegance to it.

What sets your brand apart from others?

The pieces are made of surgical grade stainless steel and are ionically coated in gold.  This process prevents fading or tarnishing and allows the pieces to be worn 24/7, in the shower, in the sea.  It accompanies you for life!  It is also decorated with semi-precious stones that are ethically sourced.  Plus it is a great price point!

What is your favourite product and why?

The Velasquez collection by Zag Bijoux! I have to stop myself buying too many pieces.

What were the first steps you took to launch? And what would you say was the scariest part/your biggest fear?

The first hurdle was convincing Zag Bijoux in Paris to allow me to be the distributor.   Although it is a very well known brand in Europe, they are a small business and it was a big step for them to make a global move.  After securing my first order, I had to approach shops which is always scary as retail outlets are approached every day and jewellery especially is a very competitive market.

What do your customers love about your products?

They love the delicate design of the jewellery, the quality and the fact that they never have to take it off.

Can you share one of your proudest moments in the business so far?

I think it must be when I approached a shop in Lane Cove just before Xmas knowing that retailers are busy and already have their Xmas stocks.  She looked at all the samples I had brought in and said she would take the lot!  They continue to be one of my biggest customers.

What is the best piece of business advice you have been given?

When you believe that something will work, just don’t give up.  Trust your instinct.

What has your experience with Life Instyle been like so far, and what are you most looking forward to at Life Instyle Sydney 2022?

I have loved working with the team at Life Instyle.  They are incredibly responsive and always very helpful with their suggestions. I am excited to introduce the range to new customers.

What are some of the other brands at Life Instyle who you love/admire?

They all seem fabulous and it’s good to see people bravely starting small and growing their brand.
