Why did you decide to launch this exciting new initiative?
Our team at Life Instyle are very lucky to work with a lot of amazing new start-ups, and we love nothing more than to support small and see them soar.
It’s probably the most rewarding part of our job when we hear about our brands wins (big or small). It might be meeting a wish list retailer, a record order from a stockist or being featured in a major publication. But we also so very often have some great new brands and products inquire or apply to exhibit but their budget or resources can limit their ability to participate and we wanted to be able to give these little guys a leg-up and perhaps even change someone’s life!
What is it that you look for when a new brand applies to exhibit at Life Instyle?
We see A LOT of applications!! Which means we often feel like we’ve seen it all – so you need to do your research and make sure your product stands out enough compared to who/what is already out there in the market or exhibiting at the show. But we also aren’t flash in the pan. We look for longevity in two senses of the word.
No fads. We love style-led purposeful products that will be loved for many years.
No faux. We look for products that are designed and produced with the highest intention, quality and originality.
Having worked with a lot of start-ups over the years, what is your one piece of advice to someone starting out?
Small milestones. Don’t try and do it all. By breaking it down into small manageable objectives and targets you can keep the momentum going and won't want to give-up when you fail at the first hurdle.
Invest in quality branding and photography. This is a visual industry and is the best way to represent your product, aesthetic and brand values, especially when competing with big brands and more established competitors.
Tell your story. People love the human element and want to connect with likeminded people and businesses.
Don’t be scared to ask for advice. Remember everyone had to start somewhere and the great thing about our community is how willing people are to share, collaborate and mentor.
