Live from the show: Pony Rider

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Since debuting at Life Instyle in Melbourne last year, Pony Rider has been featured in nearly every Australian interiors magazine and has become a stylist’s best friend. And it’s easy to why.  Founder and designer Kelly Searle combines urban, vintage, typography, floral, industrial and ethnic influences, creating effortless cool in a class of it’s own.

On show at Life Instyle in Melbourne this year was a new palette of cool greys with mustard yellows and black accents. Wall dots, flags, cushions, throws, teakins and table cloths all come together to give Pony Rider a truly unique and fresh Australian design aesthetic for contemporary homewares.  For more visit www.ponyrider.com.au

Live from the show: Seletti

Sunday, August 14th, 2011

According to Seletti, “revolution is the only solution”. And if the uprising they’re planning is half as fun, engaging and innovative as the products on their stand at Life Instyle, then we’re definite recruits to the movement. From the Pantone magazine holders to the striped furniture, black ‘tin’ crockery, stacklable playing card side tables, and Rubicks cube-esque self assembly lounge chairs, there were visual delights ignite the revolutionary in all of us.

Live from the show: Heavenly Creatures

Sunday, August 14th, 2011

Heavenly Creatures’ French inspired stand was a definite eye catcher at Kids instyle. From the large Eiffel Tower backing, to the beretted mannequins and French bulldog adorned long sleeve tee we were oh la la la-ing our petite hearts out.

stand

We loved the French motif embellishments, the envelop neck lines, the singing combinations of stripes and the vintage fabric touches.

The collections on show were definitely true to the brand ethos of ‘whimsical play clothes for modern children’. C’est bon!

Live from the show: Miniseri

Sunday, August 14th, 2011

Inspired by the school world of the 50’s and 60’s, Miniséri is the first brand to revamp old-fashioned satchel fastened by “Tuck” clasps. Miniséri has gained fame by reproducing this timeless accessory.

The Miniséri satchel rapidly came in several sizes and showed originality by adopting current fashion trends and a daring choice of colours and materials. All items are short supplied. The satchel can easily be recognised by its Tuck clasp bearing the Miniséri designer stamp and is special in that it can be either worn over the shoulder or as a rucksack thanks to “Strap and go”, a unique system designed by the brand.

Miniséri has extended its collection still drawing its inspiration from vintage and timeless bags, thus becoming an accessories brand across generations. Live from the show: Bed Toppings

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

Designer and business owner Sophie Farquhar always dreamt of sleeping on a piece of toast with a buttered sheet and tin spaghetti doona. This idea has been brought to life in 2011 with the launch of Bed Toppings – Fun for Sleepyheads at Kids Instyle Melbourne. All designs are crafted in Australia and feature Sophie’s hand drawn illustrations.

stand

Bed Toppings turn kids beds into giant objects. Other bedding labels sell sheets and doona covers separately. But with Bed Toppings, the whole bed can play dress ups. Each set includes a doona cover, flat sheet, fitted sheet and pillowcase, all made with beautifully soft 100% cotton with 200 thread count.

“The sweetest dreams are had sleeping inside a giant Sleepyhead Chocolate Bar.” Who are we to argue? At Kids Instyle until 5pm Friday or visit www.bedtoppings.com.au.

With an educational twist, all of the cards have a word hidden in them. It is the name of the animal or the number of animals or pictures on the card. But it could be in another language!

Live from the show: Smellies

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

If you had any doubt that the 80’s were back, Smellies will absolutely crush it. But this time, it’s for the millennials. If you’re under six years old, these Scratch and Sniff t-shirts will blow your mind. And if you’re under 14, you’ll be wearing a hypercolour colour t-shirt, just like dad did when he was trying to solve his first Rubick’s cube. Too much fun to resist. An instant hit for this Christmas. Sniff them out at Kids Instyle until 5pm Sunday or check out www.smelliesclothing.com.

Live from the show: Angus & Celeste

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

Keir Angus MacDonald and Asha Celeste Cato met in 1997 while studying Fine Arts at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Together, they trained in all things ceramic and in 2003 they decided to combine their talents (and middle names) and formed Angus and Celeste. The resulting fine bone china and porcelain objects are unique and covetable.

The Angus and Celeste range bridges the void between traditional and modern. A collection of contemporary yet classical shapes, that are decorated with an assortment of motifs that are inspired by the past.

“A thing of beauty is a joy forever”. Angus and Celeste combine simple materials with complicated processes to produce nothing less than pure objects of desire. The time and attention to detail involved in every object is obvious as soon as you see it. The brilliance of the porcelain is luminous and the subtle shapes are irresistibly tactile. See them at Life Instyle Melbourne until 5pm Sunday or visit www.angusandceleste.com.au

Live from the show: Pili Pala

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

Inspired by all things vintage, her jewellery and homeware products feature mediums including Tasmanian Blackwood, recycled scrabble tiles, resin, linen and vintage papers. Story book pendants and brooches, and Three Little Pigs tea towels and cushions will have your heart aflutter until 5pm Sunday, or visit www.pilipalapieces.com.au.
