We’re loving to have stumbled across this wonderfully curated online store of interior design goodness, Project 82. We simply adore papier mache magazine – from it’s digital beginnings to it’s now biannual print versions, this children’s magazine is the hands-down style leader for the young set. Grab a copy of the latest edition at the Surry Hills Market next Saturday.

(The Surry Hills Markets are an essential fundraiser for the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre, specialising in handmade, second-hand and recycled goods. The Markets are held from 7:00am to 4:00pm on the first Saturday of every month, at the corner of Crown and Collins Sts, Surry Hills, in Shannon Reserve, Surry Hills, Sydney.)

In Style: Matthew Macready, Graphic Designer

LIS-handbook

The artwork for the Sydney Life Instyle and Kids Instyle 2012 shows was lovingly drawn by graphic designer, Mat Macready. Playing on the tagline ‘Love the Small Things’, the intricate illustrations feature many iconic details you’ll find at our events. Mat’s work in his portfolio his engaging, surprising and entertaining – just the right ingredients for a Life Instyle/Kids Instyle campaign!

How would you describe the style of the Sydney 2012 LIS/KIS cover artwork you created?
Its really more of a feminine version of the stuff I do at home – fun, detailed, illustrations every time you look at it you find something you didn’t see before. I guess that’s fun…

How did the concept evolve?
When I saw the products that are showcased at Life Instyle it looked like there was a lot of small cool things, so that’s where the tagline came from and the illustrations came from that pretty much.

What’s your favourite part of the design (or maybe favourite little icon in each of the designs?)
I like the circles with the sea inside them, they seem to be in a lot of illustrations I do.

KIS-handbook

How did you get to be doing what you do?
Just from drawing as a kid, I kept doing it and I guess that led me to graphic design.

What’s the best thing about your line of work?
The variety I get to draw, design, take pictures, video stuff and edit it.

Matthew-Macready

What’s the next project you’re working on?
My six a side football teams formation. I have a feeling it is gonna take awhile though.

Right now I’m:
Eating… turkish
Drinking…tobys estate
Reading… the bourne betrayal
Hearing… junip
Planning… this weeks fantasy league squad
Buying… something new
Enjoying… typing these answers

Top Pick: Happy 10th Birthday kikki.K

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

This month international stationery brand kikki.K celebrates it’s 10th birthday. We’re especially delighted to see in this achievement, as kikki.K was one of the very first handful of business to come on board Life Instyle in the very early days – before it was even called Life Instyle!

From a wholesale business and a single store in Melbourne Central in the early 2000s, kikki.K is now an Australian retail success story with over 70 stores across three countries, a thriving online business and large band of very loyal brand advocates.

Kristina talks about the kikki.K journey in a short documentary made to mark the ten year anniversary.

The pop-up will be in a residential house in Fitzroy, which Lucy and her team will transform into the ultimate stylised Melbourne pad. Everything in the home will be for sale – from bedlinen to books, artwork, furniture, kitchenware and lighting, each and every item can be purchased on the spot.

Lucy explains “We have carefully selected a group of local designers, artists, makers and retailers whose beautiful wares will fill this space. There’ll be a cafe on the roof deck, a flower stall by a fabulous local floral designer, cooking demonstrations in the modern open-plan kitchen, and events every day and night.”

And if you’re not in Melbourne from 1 -4 December 2011, she’ll also be running an online shop for 2 weeks during 5 – 18 December where almost everything in the house will be available to buy online during this time.
