Our talented photographer Claudio Oyarce of Plug2Studio has once again delivered to us some breathtaking shots of the recent Melbourne show. If you visited the show or were one of our exhibitors, look out for yourself in the pictures!
The complete collection of photos will be available on the Life Instyle & Kids Instyle Facebook pages.
We’ve been thrilled with coverage of the show by various bloggers across the nation and across the pond! If you spot any others that we’ve missed, please leave us a message and point us in the right direction!
George from Seinfeld may have wanted to be ‘ensconced in velvet‘, but we would be content to be wrapped in felt – underfoot, in hand, lapel adorned. Happily, B&M Felt gave us our fix at Life Instyle Melbourne.
Through his three businesses, Jayden Weston makes felt products (iphone, laptop sleeves, pencil cases, place mats, brooches, bracelets, shopping totes, Christmas decorations), and sells felt and other supplies for felt lovers and their like.
We were particularly enamored with their stylish grey felt iPad sleeve – big brother to their iPhone sleeve. Now we have an even tougher time putting the damn thing down!
Melbourne has certainly turned on the winter weather at Life Instyle this year, so saddling up to some beautifully made blankets, scarves and beanies crossed our minds more than once… then we wandered past Uimi and warmed up with Uimi creators, husband and wife team Feeona and Troy Gange.
All products are locally made by hand by Feeona in their warehouse and showroom in Clifton Hill, Victoria. Sourcing Italian spun and dyed organic cotton, silk and merino yarn, Feeona makes all baby, body, kids and home knitwear on her Japanese knitting machine – things are going well – a second machine is due to arrive from Germany in two weeks, allowing full size blankets to be manufactured!
Uimi is proudly “Australian Made” certified, and is dedicated to supporting local design and manufacturing industries.
Representing many jewellery and accessory brands is Mingk. One of the designers they represent has created truly unique pieces, with a story to tell.
Silenzio Stampa (”Silent brand”) was born by Italian designer Alice Vicin. Her current range ‘Crisis’ is crafted from discarded newspaper articles reporting on the global financial crisis. Using the paper, Alice has created necklaces and brooches dipped in wax to produce objects of beauty from a disastrous event. Each piece is handmade and unique and intriguing.
Jethro and Jackson is a new sleep and lounge wear brand inspired by fashion trends and coveting a very high comfort factor. Debuting at Life Instyle in Melbourne, the Winter 2011 collection features textile designs by the renowned Beci Orpin.
Two themes run across the range – Inuit, Eskimo girl and Eastern European folk princess, and you’ll see these expressed in prints on pajama leggings, sleeping tunics, hoodies and loungewear tees. Given the weather in Melbourne this week, it’s a shame we have to wait until next winter to get into this gear!
It’s wacky. It’s unexpected. And it’s fun. It’s Made590. Christina Kelly has assembled a cast of eclectic animal inspired products to produce a tantilising range for buyers on the hunt for something different. Fake furry animals, ceramic geese measuring cups, framed animal character prints, kids melamine plates and cups and laser cut wall clocks all feature in the collection.
Christina took a moment from tending to her herd to talk to us out her first Life Instyle experience in Melbourne.
What to do with crates of old vinyl records? Up-cycle them to notebooks and flying ducks of course! Mark Farrell and his company Record Attempts, exhibited in our First Instyle category at Life Instyle in Melbourne, and his creations caught eyes and imaginations of many of our shoppers.
All of Mark’s products are handmade in Melbourne, and his range includes notebooks, sketch books, music books and photo albums. Records are rescued from op shops or donated by people who want to give their records a new life. For retail shoppers, he’ll even custom produce a product from a record of their choosing. Each “attempt” retains the album sleeve, both front and back, as inserts. Very nifty!
Who could deny giving classics such as ‘Love is a Piano Accordio’ and ‘20 Eurovision Favourites’ a second lease of life?
Today we met a king with very stylish bags and very sturdy duckfeet. And he was an absolute delightful monarch! A newcomer to Life Instyle, Simon King’s range of Spacecraft printed bags, and imported Danish designed footwear combines his creative eye with his business sensibility. He granted us a special audience for a few minutes so we could get to know the man behind the brand. Long live King Simon!
